quilt block/square or something for a Christmas ornament. I'm going to be in an ornament swap with a bunch of girls I graduated high school with.

I'd like to do some kinda of quilt square but I don't want it huge. Any ideas? Just something around 3 x 3 or maybe a tad larger.

Thanks for the suggestions!

ANY pattern can be reduced in size.......LOL if you're willing. When I first read your question I thought of the Cathedral Window --- though it's not fast.

you can do a simple 9 patch in holiday colors. you'd have to start with 1.5" squares to finish at 1" each. please show us whatever you decide on.

This isn't a block... but.... years ago I made a bunch of yo-yo's, inserting a little bit of batting before pulling the circle closed, and then sewed them in a circle to make a wreath. Add a bow and a ribbon to hang it. They were big sellers at craft shows.

There are Christmas ornaments that you can paper piece. There are some free patterns on the internet. Just do a search for paper pieced ornaments.

A simple 9P would do the trick, easy enough for a 3x3 ornament. Find some beautiful fabrics and that'll have them all ooohing and aaaahing and you'll be the star of the exchange.

There's some PP patterns if you want to do a miniature log cabin with tiny strips.

And as already mentioned, any pattern can be miniaturized, just by scaling it down. With it being Christmas, a star pattern would be nice, traditional or more modernistic.

Those are great ..... easy enough to graph those out and put together. Thanks for the idea!

You could do a simple fussy cut Santa head etc. from a fabric, sew around the edge with it right side together with batt and back and turn right side out through a small unsewn seam spot.
I really like the look of tiny Christmas stockings on a tree as ornaments. You just follow a big pattern only make it 3- 4 inches instead. I like to do them the size for folded money to go in or a gift card.
