I am currently trying my hand at an applique quilt and I'm attempting the starch method. I'm having trouble with...after I cut out the template (tried cardstock and acrylic template) I then put my material behind the template, paint on the starch and iron over the template. The cardstock gets soft and buckles, the other template is feels like it's melting. Also, the corners don't look as nice as I'd like--Im a little OCD on these things. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Patrice listed websites here that have good tutorials, maybe one of them can help you with this.

don't know this method but I'd recommend freezer paper if you're doing it by hand...

PittsburgPam gave a pictorial description within this post of a method she used for the center of her patriotic quilt. It seemed to work for her quite nicely.

Press two pieces of freezer paper together, (wax side to plain side) and then cut out the template. It holds up to the starch.
