I need help. I want to make an embroidery quilt for my son but I don't want to make it the traditional 9 blocks quilt. I've already made one like that. What are my options?
Thanks,
Diane

What does he like? You could do an attic windows or maybe embroidery a block and put strips around each block like a log cabin.

I did the strips around each block on his first quilt. I'm now looking into the attic windows. Thanks for the suggestions.

I made my son this....
He loves it.

It's a modified log cabin--strips 'round a triangle instead of a square. We went for bright, unusual fabrics with a black background. He is a teenager.

How old is your son?

My little guy wanted dragons...
The possibilites are endless...

You could pick many different blocks, any one with a big enough center to embroidery on would make an awesome quilt :D :D :D

Julie,
I looooooooooove your quilt. What is the pattern for that quilt? It's absolutely beautiful!!! My son is only 1 year old. He does love his cars though.

I attached the first quilt I made him. As you all could see, it's just strips around the embroidery applique square. I just wanted to do something different that would incorporated the embroidery designs into the blocks.

Thanks, I quess I'll have to start looking for quilt blocks.

Your quilt is adorable.

I like the suggestion of using your embroidery in a block. Some blocks known as "signature" blocks will have a more intricate block design w/ a center portion left blank for people to sign. You might be able to put your embroidery designs in those areas or modify the block to fit your embroidery. Not sure which is easier.

I think it would be interesting to see the embroidery around the edges of the quilt too. Not sure how involved that would be..always more work to be done and not enough time.

Quilterscache has several "signature" blocks of various sizes. The website usually has one quilt displayed so you can get an idea of what the quilt will look like.
HTH,
Julie
