Need suggestions!!!!
 

Hello Ladies!!

I am fairly new to quilting, just in the process of finishing my second quilt. I do not do the actual quilting, I let a professional do that!

My problem is I have just finished putting on the last border of my UNDERGROUND RAILROAD QUILT. Love the quilt and colors. Now the big problem. When constructing the quilt we were suppose to have the story (showing the quilt blocks and the story behind them) printed and then transferred to a block. I did this via my copy machine. Everything looked fine. Color was not real bright but I was content with it. After working with and sewing everything together it has started to peel off. I just know the whole block of printing is going to peel. Now what do I do! I have the whole quilt constructed and am going to end up with a blank block!!! What whould you suggest I do before I have it quilted!!!!

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Can you redo that block? Did you use a fabric treated for copiers?

I had trouble with transferring labels to fabric sheets I purchased too. Had to go buy a different kind. I have moved since and the "good" kind is packed somewhere! or I would tell you what worked for me. With the second fabric I washed the printed sheet before I added it to the quilt. When it didn't not run, etc. I figured it would be ok. I know some people send their photos out to have someone else do a phototransfer. That seems to work quite well too. One lady I met uses an Epson printer for photo transfer.
Otherwise! --- how about just putting in another block as suggested above? I have replaced blocks even in the middle of a quilt when I was not satisfied with what was already there or when I discovered two pieces of white on white sashing was wrong side out! Then if you have succeeded with the printed info on fabric later you could always handstitch it to the back of the quilt as a label.
I am sure you will figure something out and end up happy with the outcome.

I put on the tute's site one on making your own quilt labels. Do a search on the QB - top right of the page - or an advanced post for my tute. I use this same method to put on sayings and such on the backs of my quilts. I DO NOT use special fabric for printing. Give it a look see. You may want to try it out.

what is peeling? when i print on fabric- the ink absorbs into the fabric- like any printed fabric---nothing to peel- although at times it does fade ... just wondering what you used that would peel? sorry this happened- i would make a new one and replace what you have

You have put a great deal of time, money, love and effort into your Underground Railroad, I would remove just that one square and try another transfer product. Find the one that "prints" onto the fabric, there is nothing to peel that way.

I have successfully used Bubble Jet Set in my computer printer. You have your fabric of choice and a piece of freezer paper that goes through the printer. Then you just have to treat the fabric with the Bubbble Jet Set. I had to write out the directions because if you don't follow them completely perfectly, it won't work (ask me how I know).

Sounds like you used the iron on transfer sheets (the kind that you print on then iron them to your fabric).
