I recently completed a zig zag quilt. The tutorial (http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com...t-without.html) says to cut off the zig zag points to finish it but I don't want to do that. I want to keep the points. Do you think the best way to do that is to make a seam and (machine) applique each one to the trim fabric? I tried to put a piece of black backing on each point so that each one would be flapping (no official quilt terms here :mrgreen: ). But that didn't seem to work out. HELP! IDEAS Needed!! Thanks.

i actually like it the way the pattern calls for.

I made a zigzag quilt using the same tutorial and I cut my corners off, it looks fine. I get a lot of compliments on it. I used the parts I trimmed off to piece the backing.

If you want to keep your zigzags, you could piece in some setting triangles. Or, you could keep the top as is, layer and quilt it, then trim the backing and batting out from between the zigzags, and have fun making a zigzag binding!

I haven't seen the quilt, but could you sew on a backing to the parts sticking out like you do a facing, trim, clip, turn, and blindstitch to the backing? This may be totally not do-able!

Why don't you want to just even it off?

One of my most interesting quilt classes I have been to, the instructor does exactly this - "faces" the quilt rather than more traditional binding. His quilts were often 'fractured' and doing the facing makes it easierto manage all the twists and turns.

So, just like you'd face a blouse or jacket, you can face your quilt :)

I was also going to suggest facing the quilt if you want to keep all the corners. It's easy to do, and then you don't have to bind it.

I was thinking of black set in triangles on the edges to get it straight. Then a black binding. Or any color that would look like a background not part of the zig zag.. That way you only deal with straight edges to finish off.

Makes for a pretty quilt.

Oops! I'm sorry - I missed the first sentence where you said you already made it!

Can't you just use binding? You can just sew it on and make both inside corners and outside corners. It will look nice with the ends left on.

Not to repeat myself (but I will) - it is MUCH EASIER to do facing than any other option, and it looks better too.
