But freemotion is "free" "motion". The whole point is to do it freehand - let your spirit guide you.
If you're following a pattern, then it's either a pantograph or a pattern. Isn't it?

I think what you need is a video tutorial on how to do meandering. There is no pattern, but there is a technique. Search at the top for that.

do a search for free motion quilting on youtube. They have tons of wonderful videos.

Hi Nemosmom! if you have a dry-erase board, practice a design on that first, then get a practice piece of fabric(top, batting, backing) and practice, practice..seriously its just a matter of practicing and most importantly relaxing while your working. Hope this helps!!!

The key is to relax and do it. My quilting teacher suggested that I make (and quilt) a stack of potolders first. It worked.

This is one I am working on at the moment, or would be if I had not run out of thread.

Hello and welcome. When I started FMQ I used a pounce pad and a stencil on my quilt. It helped me get the feel of what I wanted to do.
