I use Carol Doak's method. Her DVD is the best I've seen to learn paper piecing. At my guild when new members ask about learning pping, this DVD is handed to them.

I, too, am a very visual person. Is it just a DVD you buy or does it come with a book?

Going to go check the recommended YouTube videos and then check on QC.

Then I need to go check for some patterns.

Carol Doak is the queen of P/P ( just my opinion). She has great tutes on many of the CD's in her books. I learned to do P/P from her books ( before CD's came along).
Once I got started ( yes the first one was tough) it required a new process that was in many ways the reverse of everything I had done. Now I just love it!!!!

I have the Carol Doak's DVD and I love it. That's how I learned pp, and now it is one of my favorite methods. There is quite a bit of waste with the fabric but the end results are fabulous, to me its worth the waste.

Join Carol's yahoo group. She works right along with everyone, and is not above trying to help the beginner. She is a wonderful person!! Everyone will do their best to help you. Any of her books will be a good buy for you. She has free patterns on her website, too!

go to youtube and find a video on paper piecing...it is a totally different way of "sewing a square"...Fons and Porter just had a TV show on PBS on a square for a very beautiful quilt it was called Pineapple Salsa, show #1707, and pattern featured in Sept/Oct 20101 LOQ mag....I have the pattern if you would like it.

My 1st PP "book" was a leaflet size how to by Carol Doak, called "Teach Me How To PP". In my opinion hands down, she's the best at explaining PP.

Also, try your library.Start with a block that has less pieces, then move on up. Enjoy, it's fun to learn.

I would love to try this and the gal that had done the blocks recommended Carol Doak's books. Do you have a favorite? Do you recommend one over another? She has so many books that I just didn't know which one to choose. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
