was in Joann fabrics today and the saleslady came over to me (sad huh that I am in there so much she "knows" me) - anyway, she told me that in Sept they are opening a Super Joann Fabrics in the old Circuit City building and closing the two smaller ones in town. So, what is a Super Joanns Fabric, other than will have a lot more fabric (she said). Is it just more crafts etc also. Does anyone have one where they live?

just an opinion; it would be nice if joanns had more fabric and less vines, flowers cakes and craft stuff. in our town anyway. there is a hobby lobby and a michaels within 1/2 block of joanns and a pat catan's craft place 2 miles down the road.

Our Super Joann's has a Viking Center in them. And yes, the whole store is expanded and carries more things.

If I am not mistaken the one in Porter Ranch CA is a super Joanns. It is much bigger than the one in our town with a much bigger & better fabric section & a huge home dec section. Every department from floral to scrpabooking to framing is bigger & expanded. They also have candles & lots of seasonal stuff. They offer classes too. It really is nicer than a regular Joann's.

I prefer the super Joanns too. They have a more comfortable atmosphere than any of the other 3 that are closest to me. Only thing is it take 20-30 mins to get to one and I am very happy with my little one that is 5 mins away.

We have two Joann's in our area. One is smaller than the other. Lately the smaller store is not filling the shelves and they are getting bare. Makes me so sad.

Our Joanne's is quite large and carries lots of fabric as well as crafting items. One of the clerks told me it's not considered a super store because there's no framing department, but otherwise it is like a super store.

Dunno if my closest JoAnns is "super" or not, it does have a Viking dealership inside, but it's not that clean or tidy and the crafts and JUNK (cheap toys, etc) make me not enjoy bring there. It also smells so strongly of potpourri that I get a headache. I worked at JoAnns as a teen and our store was smaller but cleaner and mostly fabric and sewing supplies, less crafts.

if you prefer shopping at a home depot rather than ace hardware, then you will like the super joanns. too much junk in them and robotic employees.

I don't care for my Super JoAnn's. to many crafts and not enough fabric. Just in a corner of this huge store if you don't count the upholstry fabric.

The Super Store spread the fabrics out more, and they have twice as many chatchkies and every craft you can think of. They make it seem like they have a lot more and granted they do, but I don't think they have much more in the way of quilting fabrics than any of the other ones.
Reminds me, I worked at Walmart here when they turned it into a Super Store several years ago, then they went and remodeled it and actually made the store smaller, and carry less items now. Most people didn't notice, but they all knew something was different. The upper echelons seem to think we are really stupid and can't figure out what is going on. LOL Can't stand shopping there anymore.

I like our Super Joann's. It is much brighter and the aisles are wider than the other regular & small stores. It has more of everything plus the frame shop and the Viking center. Before it was super-sized; it was in a smaller location, was dark and stuff was jam packed to the ceiling. It is 1000% better now. Oh, and I don't know about other Super Joann's but this one has a small area set aside for classes. There is another one in St. Louis county that has about the same amount of floor space but it is not a Super Joann's. Not as much stuff, no Viking Center, no framing area and not as brightly lit.

We had a JoAnns that closed probably 10 years ago! Was rather junky. Now they are opening one in an old Circuit City building also..hmmmmm... They must have gotten a good deal on the lease buy outs.....anyway, I will probably go there here and there.......but I really prefer quilt shop fabric.

I don't live close to Joann's anymore, but when I did, I would go to the one in Visalia, they closed the old one, where whenever I went they had something that I "had" to have. The new "super" Joann's, they have less fabric and very rarely do I find something I just have to have. When I go to a fabric store or quilt store, I don't want to look at furniture, draperies, etc..

I think ours is called a Super Store. Got lots of hobby stuff, as well as home decor.

I wish they woiuld put a Joanns in Warsaw, Indiana.......i have to go 30-50 miles...either way....but we have Walmart who still has fabric....thank goodness!

Keep your eyes open when they start closing the old stores.....they do not move the old stuff into the new stores and the sales are OUTSTANDING!! I've been lucky enough to live close enough to 3 small JoAnns that have closed because they opened brand new superstores close by and really added to my stash. It starts about a month before the new store is scheduled to open with 25 % off, then 50 % off, then 75 % off and if there is anything left, they ''almost'' give it away the last few days!! The JoAnn company turns the closeout over to an independent company not associated with JoAnns and they have some funny sale rules....one store didn't cut any fabric, you had to buy whatever was on the bolt but at 75% off, it didn't matter...find the fattest bolt and mark that fabric as backing stash!! Start saving your dollars and cents.....the closeout will be AWESOME.....make sure to mark your calender for the sales and go often!!!!

Oh yea, the superstore is pretty awesome too but after seeing those sale prices drop each week....it will hurt to pay full price again!!

Our Joann's closed and remodeled over 10 years ago and became a super. It is now 2 floors. Upper floor is all kinds of fabric, sewing notions, yarn, storage, and sewing machines. Lower floor is all crafts.

When our Walmart remodeled recently the first thing I noticed is that many items I used to buy were not longer available. They have done away with many of their own store brand items and many of the generics I'm used to buying. And they hide-------on the bottom shelf and way to the back behind a trash can in the aisle---------- the generic brand of Oxy-clean. But I found out where they do keep it, so if someone can crawl into that back corner for me, I buy several containers at a time.

And items have been grouped differently. They put Hunt's pudding cups (for hubby's lunch) with the baby products---------until I had a big hissy fit and told the manager I didn't need his baby pudding. Now it's with snack items which include a lot of lunch box type stuff-------so I do appreaciate that move.

The regular Joann's we have here in Tulsa area is so messy and hard to get around in I stopped going to shop there. And I think my biggest complaint is the one girl cutting fabric while the line is sometimes over 10 people long. Don't you get your money back when you return the cart like at Aldi's grocery stores?
