I'm thinking about buying a new machine, one I can quilt or do about anything with, could I have some feed back on what is the best machine to buy?

If money is no object, I would go with the Bernina 830. It has a longer throat, it is easy to use and can do amazing embroidery. The Bernina machines are very reliable. I still have my 40 year old Bernina 830 Record and she is a workhorse. I have another one as well, the Bernina 440QE with the embroidery unit. I would love to have the 830, some day.

I vote for a Bernina. I have a 730..the embroidery is fabulous. The machine is easy to use..yet has all the bells whistles.

What are you looking to do? Is it quilting, embroidery, or a combo? Depending on what you want to do with it is the question. Also, if you want to do embroidery, do you want a combo unit or 2 separate units - one for sewing and the other for embroidery? If you decide to go with 2 separate units, then you can sew and embroider at the same time and sometimes, depending on what you want, this can be the more economical way of doing it.

This is my story. I coveted an embroidery machine. Laid out the money for a fantastic Baby Lock Ellegante. Wonderful machine if you don't mind paying $8,000. Embroidered everything the 1st year, the second year the quilting bug bit me and now 4 years later I occasionally embroider something, but not very often. I bought a Juki TL98Q for a third of the money and I LOVE IT! I use the Ellegante for the decorative stitches and some piecing, but usually end up using the Juki. Wish I had bought their high end straight sewing machine and the Juki. Would still have a lot of money left over.

Bernina... My Mom has a Bernina about 40 yrs old and it works wonderfully. Mine is around 19 years old and I have never had a problem with it.

They are heavy enough to keep your sewing projects in place. turn your fabric and your machine does't move. And go through tough fabric.

I just love my Bernina.
