New sewing machine?? need some advice

I have a wonderful Singer 301A and a Kenmore 158. Both are great machines. I FMQ on the 301A no problem and the Kenmore 158 has cams for decorative stitches.

If I were to look for a good newer machine like a Janome to do quilting and FMQ, what model would I look at?

I really want a HQ Sweet 16, but it's out of my price range. Something in the interim would be nice with some bells and whistles.

Just a thought.

Thanks
Julie

I was seriously looking for a quilt-only machine and looked at several. I really wanted a longarm but would have settled for a good machine on a quilting frame. My husband (bless his heart) said 'why don't you just get the one you really want so that next year you aren't looking again saying 'I should have got what I wanted in the first place" That made the most sense so I ordered Handi Quilter Avante 18". It should be here by the end of the month. Can't wait. If at all possible you may want to do the same thing and get the Sweet 16 and make some arrangements to do payments. IMHO Good luck and congrats on whatever you buy.

I got my HQ16 used and it is great. I know there are some HQ16's and HQ Sweet 16's out there because the owners have 'traded up.'
