My grandson (21) told me today he sleeps under his quilt everynight and loves it. He wants me to make him another one but a little longer. doesn't It give you a warm feeling someone likes your quilts you have given them?

In my book, that's the nicest thing anyone can say to me! :)

OneMoreQuilt 12-30-2010 10:37 AM

Yes. It's the best reward!

Yes it sure is a good feeling, my dgs sleeps with his all winter too and he outgrew it a long time ago, time to make him another rag quilt, but i hate making them, all that clipping.

Knowing someone loves your creation is the best feeling. When I miss my sister, Gina, I suggle under a quilt she made for me-and I'm almost 50! I'm glad he shared his love for the quilt with you.

Ann L 12-30-2010 10:46 AM

Wonderful! I hope mine are as thoughtful and appreciative when they get older!

Tink's Mom 12-30-2010 12:02 PM

That's the best...My nephew is still sleeping under the quilt that I made him 6 years ago. When he got a dbl bed I had to add on to the quilt on the sides and the bottom. He didn't want a new one, he wanted the one he had.

When I gave him the original quilt, I whispered to him that everytime that he cuddled up in the quilt, he was getting a hug from me. Many mornings he had to unroll himself from the inside of the quilt.

Cyn 12-30-2010 12:46 PM

Absolutely!

craftybear 12-30-2010 01:40 PM

that is so sweet

AnnieH 12-30-2010 01:48 PM

Oh, how lovely. Bet you've started it already.

Such a sweet young man.

tmg 12-31-2010 03:20 AM

I know the feeling. I'm having one now also

jitkaau 12-31-2010 04:07 AM

My sister told me that my nephew used to re - make his bed if she had not put the quilt I made him on the top. I made it for him when he was eight. When he was a teenager of about 19, he very reluctantly let me repair a couple of squares that had come adrift. I was given strict instructions not to alter it in any way.He is 40 now and it is still in use in his house - reward enough.

grannypat7925 12-31-2010 06:48 AM

Yes, it is wonderful to hear they love them!

Dianne Lenore 12-31-2010 07:03 AM

My grandchildren live a long way from me so I do not get to see their response when their quilts arrive in the mail.
My daughter told me it was so cute when they decided to "camp out" in the bonus room. One had gotten a new lantern. When she went into see them, they were asleep in their sleeping bags with their quilts over them. They are 4 and 6 years old. Now Ella, their sister will be next to get hers.

krob 12-31-2010 07:12 AM

How absolutely wonderful!!! I bet he gets a nice big quilt in any color and any pattern he wants!!!!

CGail 12-31-2010 07:44 AM

That's cute - even at 21 ! I'm sure he does need a longer one. It's great that he asked you to make him another. - Cynthia

Love all the appreciation noted here :) :)

buckyfan19 12-31-2010 08:43 AM

I was so happy when my SIL told me how much my niece loves her Minnie Mouse quilt/pillow case I made for her. Considering all the other cross-stitched projects I have made for that family are MIA!

Heartwarming quilts 12-31-2010 10:14 AM

I have 5 gks each of who have at least 3 quilts. My 4 yr old in paticular has at least 5 or 6. When we were there last time he brought me his favorite quilt wrapped around him. I asked if I could take a picture of it with him and he turned in a circle and said yep. He just kept it on and turned a little for the picture. When were there for his b-day I was ambushed at the door and then each person that came in he brought over and introduced us to them saying this is "my grandma and grandpa". It was a little embarassing when the people he brought over were his other grandparents. I do know just how important I am to him hence I will never stop quilting for my grandbabies!

When my granddaughter returned to Base, she made her bed with the quilt and pillow cases I made her and sent pictures to us. She said this is the Christmas tree Mom sent me and the awsome quilt Grammy made me.

Tweety2911 12-31-2010 04:58 PM

Ahhhhh. Warms my heart. Bet you are starting one now!

You might use the smallest rotary cutter to do the clipping. Lay the edge you need to clip flat on your mat with your ruler on the place where you want the slit to end and proceed to cut. When I do this I use a larger seam allowance...nearly an inch.

newbiequilter 12-31-2010 06:09 PM

My son (44) told me today that the Brickyard rag flannel quilt I made him for this Christmas is warm (we have just had a cold snap)and fits him just fine (he is 6'3"). He said some of his friends want one too - I told him that his friends better be prepared for sticker shock!

CarrieAnne 12-31-2010 06:12 PM

Aw, thats so nice!

ilovetosew 12-31-2010 07:07 PM

newbiequilter 12-31-2010 07:15 PM

Thank you for the affirmations. It was quite nice to have this comment from him (he is a very quiet guy).

Yes it does. My grandsons almost 16 and 18 both have quilts I mad for them 3 or 4 years ago and they both sleep with them every night. The younger one has appliqued sail boats on it and the older on has a Dale Earnheart quilt with black sashing with red cornerstones and checkered flag border. I am very happy that they enjoy their quilt. Another grandson who is just turned 14 has a quilt with turtles and fish. He has an aquarium in his room. For the youngest I made a tumbling block quilt when he was born but for his 5th birthday I made him an appliqued "Hungry little Caterpillar" snuggle quilt and gave him the book as well. My daughter said he loves to snuggle up with a book so it was perfect for him.

Wonderful feeling being appreciated.:)

mpeters1200 01-01-2011 09:07 AM

My sons all received quilts from their grandmother and her quilt group when they were little. I'm glad I didn't make them then. To start with, I didn't get the quilting bug until my second son was born. Also, my wonderful MIL passed away suddenly when they were 3,5 and 6. They all still have her quilts and we love them. I finally made the boys their first bed size quilts last new year's. They boys love them and some of the quilts from their grandmother we've put up for safe keeping.

My sons are starting to show an interest in quilting. One of my sons has begged me to make little quilts for his 2 teachers who both are having babies this school year. He says everyone buys babies blankets, but you don't know real love until you lay on a quilt.

I was at a loss for words.

probison 01-01-2011 10:23 AM

My son (37) wants me to lengthen the quilt I gave him for his birthday. He loves the quilt, for which I am very grateful--and pleased that he appreciates the work that went into the finished product.

kwiltkrazy 01-01-2011 11:36 AM

Yes, I think it gives me a real high, and it lasts for a good while. Saw my nephew over the Christmas break, last year I made him a Tennessee Waltz quilt and the large spots that were the snowball patches, were all quilted with the head of a dragon, he told me again how much he loves his quilt. Then later that day his mother told me of the near tragedy his quilt had. They have an old cat that is sickly, well she got sick on his quilt, and he got really upset about it. Something about heads will roll, needless to say the quilt came through with flying colors; I always include a thing of Grandmas spot remover with the quilts. So everything is fine. But it still made me feel good when he told me how much he "Loved" his quilt.

Ps 150 01-01-2011 11:39 AM

Absolutely! The feelings are almost as warm as the quilts themselves.

cheryl rearick 01-01-2011 05:24 PM
