nolting Pro 24 thread tension problem?
 

Can anyone help give me some clues as to what I need to do about my thread tension?

This, I'm sure is a standard problem for new LA users. I have just about given up.

Right now my bobbin thread is breaking at the case. I have done everything the troulbe shooting info says:

new needle, centered and all the way in
good thread, threaded properly (Superior- King Tut which I always use)
same bobbin thread as top
thread tightly wound on to bobbin, not spongy

I even added a paper washer in the bobbin case to help eliminate backlash


Bobbin tension is so that the bobbin raises up in my hand when pulled gently and the drop test only drops the thread between 1/2 and 1" when tugged.

I feel I have everything right but still the thread breaks.

I have tried lossening the bobbin tension a tiny bit and then the stitching goes funny. (top thread will lay on backing instead for being burried in the quilt.)


I am at my wits end. Any new info that anybody could impart would be greatly appreciated.

Hi...only other thing I could add is what kind of fabric are you sewing? If it's batik, or if your top and your backing are not matched, sometimes you get a problem there. Or, fact of the matter, your machine may just not like the thread! My LA does NOT like the Connecting Threads brand and I get many tension issues. Good luck!

Mine doesn't like King Tut sigh. Are you a member of Yahoo Nolting group? make sure there isn't any broke thread around the bobbin spindle and nothing in the bobbin case (Tiny lint hard to see) Make sure the needle isn't in backwards. Nolting customer service is the best.

Is your sandwich too tight ... have you check for burrs ... and join us over at the Nolting yahoo group.

Did you figure out what the problem was with the thread breakage? You may need to check the timing. Sometimes mine hiccups when I move it too fast toward the 11 oclock position. The needle flexes and can cause the timing to be a bit off. If your machine is a Nolting, they have instructions on their web site on how to set timing as well as commom problems and how to fix them.
