OBW vs Fussy Cut

Ok, I don't get to quilt as much as I would like to and love reading this website daily! One of my friends took a class on Fussy Cut blocks & they looked similar to OBW, she played with the arrangements on a fabric wall until she got it the way she wanted it to put together. My question-is there a difference, I'm deprived of time to sew these days and get my fix with all the beautiful projects everyone does on this website. Makes me so jealous!

OBW you cut repeats the width of fabric, stack the fabric, and every cut gives you 6 identical pieces. No fussy cutting :D:D:D

So are you saying in fussy cut you just stack & cut?

In OBW you stack and cut. In fussy cut you cut out specific pitures or areas with "typically" no regard to bias or strait edged or waste.

This is my take. There are 2 main book series out there, OBW and Stack & Whack. In both, you find the fabric repeats and carefully stack them. Both these methods produce kalidescope blocks. To me a One Block Wonder quilt takes the fabric and reduces it to colors. You just cut strips and triangles, without regard for the fabric pattern. Although you get some beautiful blocks, the individual blocks are not important, it's the overall arrangement into a new fabric where the colors flow that counts. The individual blocks melt into each other. The Stack and Whack method seems to highlight the individual kalidescope blocks that are created by surrounding them with other fabrics, making them the center piece of a larger block. this is where you would fussy cut your stacked pieces to get the prettiest blocks.

a obw you line up layers of fabric so the design is exactly in the same space and cut your shapes in the same place through the layers...fussing cutting you take a piece of fabric with designs (like roses) and you use a pair of scissors and cut out that rose.,..or what ever, maybe a car or a tree.... you carefully cut out individual shapes from the fabric, so when you are done your piece of fabric looks like swiss cheese...obw fab's are cut in strips, and the pieces are cut all at once...no waste.
