I just finished chain piecing about 80 very neutral blocks together only to discover that I hadn't changed from a rather brilliant pink to a neutral thread.

Exciting times will be had with my seam ripper.

QuiltnNan 10-29-2011 09:11 AM

 put on some good music while you do that and just relax

The world would know. It was some of the hottest pink thread I have ever seen. I was perfect on the other blocks I did!

MadQuilter 10-29-2011 09:42 AM

Does it show? If it doesn't I wouldn't take it out.

keep the stitching and call it a decorative effect. :)

wvdek 10-29-2011 10:12 AM

I would need a bottle of wine to go with jack the ripper.

Quilter Lois 10-29-2011 10:13 AM

Your quilt, your rules! If you press all the seams to one side you should not be able to see the thread unless you have used a long stitch.

Well, then I wish you lots of patience and a sharp frog - ripitripit

JOMARIE 10-29-2011 10:16 AM

send it to me i find ripping relaxing

zipit 10-29-2011 10:21 AM

It also gives me an excuse to go shop. I forgot to take my seam ripper to retreat last weekend. Debbie loaned me hers and it made me realize how dull mine was.

There's no way I can go and bring a seam ripper home all alone in the bag. I'll have to get something else to keep her company on the ride home.

debbieumphress 10-29-2011 10:41 AM

ROFL. I take it you left the thread in your Babylok that was bright pink for the OBW you were working on at retreat????? And it took how many blocks to notice??? Yup, you need my clover ripper again. I call my seam ripper "The Reverser".......GOod music,,, lots of chocolate......

Yep, I did and I was just happily sewing along until the stack ran out!

I'm getting pretty good with bobbin winding and threading it though! I have to tell you, the needle threader is just simply to die for!

sewmary 10-29-2011 11:05 AM

I am puzzled. If this is piecing what difference does it make? How will it show? I frequently use up bits of thread left over to piece. You should see some of my "nonmatches". When quilt is finished, who knows?

It is a very brilliant and dark hot pink. It shows through the neutral fabric.

I agree. Unless the fabric is very very lightweight and the piecing seam shows thru, you should not see the thread at all.

dublb 10-29-2011 07:52 PM

OH NO! Joy I'm so sorry! I've done this before! Of course you need to go shopping & one little seam ripper needs lots of company in the bag! :)

peppermint31 10-30-2011 03:47 AM

I would just re-sew REAL close to the pink seam and call it good

zipit 10-30-2011 04:01 AM

It's all ripped out and done in a more appropriate color. I did have a few laughs over it though. It reminded me of accidentially wearing patterened undies with white pants.

The shopping trip is still on and a few more items have been added to the list.

cpfrog 10-30-2011 04:54 AM

If the hot pink thread is showing, then you need to adjust some tension.... usually it wouldn't make a difference what color you used...

Instead of ripping out, can you sew over the same seam but at a thread's width to the left ??? would save some time!

AND save that bottle of wine for a more relaxing moment! Good Luck.

veryvirginia 10-30-2011 05:42 AM

She will know. LOL

I would press one open to check if thread shows before starting to rip all those seams--

Phannie1 10-30-2011 05:50 AM

I would have to rip it out too. Cause I would know it was there! Let's have coffee and I will help if I could.

ka9sdn 10-30-2011 05:55 AM

Don't you just hate it when this happens!

QuiltNama 10-30-2011 06:58 AM

Press one of the blocks, if the stitching does not show, go with the flow. I use up what thread I have unless it black thread on white fabric.

Ain't life grand???hehehe :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

acesgame 10-30-2011 07:25 AM

I guess I am glad you fixed it, but now I feel guilty because I was thinking if you quilt the thing with the bright thread it could look like you did it on purpose! I am so lazy, but you did the right thing.

Granny Quilter 10-30-2011 07:34 AM

Why? The thread used to piece does not show.

my cousin did that and for years i refused to wear anything but pink panties and NO white shorts, till my Mom finally got me to tell her why.

actually this is the best excuse for a trip to LQS/Joannes I have heard all day !!!!!!!

BJSEWS 10-30-2011 07:43 AM

I had a great sunt who told me to put it down and go away and when you come back, it will work. When I was little and doing embroidery, my thread would get so knotted and I would get so angry, So now no matter what gets in a mess, I just walk away. That reminds of when things aren't going ok, go shoping buy a new dress. I tried that one time and always hated the dress. but washing windows is good for your troubles though

smcfadden 10-30-2011 07:59 AM

Hey Joy, just think of the pink thread as livening up your neutral quilt!

Suzanne

jaciqltznok 10-30-2011 08:11 AM

I would leave it!

I do the same.

auniqueview 10-30-2011 11:16 AM

Lol, if you want to send it across the GoM, I would do it for you. My mother wouldn't teach me to sew, but boy, can I rip. One of the reasons I pin everything before I sew, and test to see if I pinned it right. Good thing, lol...I had a bad case of the dummies when I assembled the dog beds, lol.

Get a big bag of chocolates and find a comfortable seat.

jhoward 10-30-2011 12:47 PM

Use a colored fabric pen to disguise the threads that show on the seam line.

athomenow 10-30-2011 12:51 PM

My rippers are all dull. They're on my list of things to buy myself when other more important things have been purchased. I sometimes use a single sided razor blade to rip. It's faster!

zipit 10-30-2011 12:57 PM

I just returned from shopping. It was harder than I thought to find a nice seam ripper. Not too big, not too small but just right. I am happy with it. I didn't realize my other was so dull until I borrowed on last week at retreat.

I picked out all of the stitching on these blocks with my stiletto. Never again.

Now I won't have anything to rip out for ages.
