28 years ago I made my first hand sewn, hand quilted quilt. It was a green and white log cabin baby blanket for my best friend's first child (a boy). Two years after that I made a blue and white star quilt for her second baby (a girl). When we start on these journeys (every quilt is a journey) we never know where it will take us, what it will mean to someone else, or how it will impact someone's life.

In third grade that little girl wrote a poem for a competition and she won. The topic of her poem was an old blue and white quilt that she loved and what it meant to her. That same "little" girl at the age of 19 asked her mom to repair the much loved quilt and enlarge it so she could use it on her bed.

The green log cabin design was formatted so that the dark sides met in the middle and created a cross in the quilt. I recently found out that the "little" boy it was made for loved it so much that he had the center cross tatooed on his arm.

Every time we wonder if someone will like that quilt we give them we just might be opening up an important chapter in their lives.

I appreciate you sharing this story. It is a good reminder that we don't always know what our interactions with others means and that much good comes from something we think of as a small gesture. Thank you for sharing this inspiration.
