She told me she was cutting down, but the last time I picked one up she said she'd always do her favorite quilters quilts--which included me. But then she said she found out the quilting was what is hurting her back. So--I emailed her to ask if she was quilting or not--that I had the barn quilt and another for her to do... and she just replied that she's not quilting for any others now because it's too hard to decide which ones to do. :(

I asked her to steer me in the right direction.

Ugh. I don't want to find a new quilter.

I'd ask her to give me a good deal on her long arm (assuming that is what she's using) and lessons.

Good luck

I know of what you speak. Mine moved a couple of times and I can't seem to track her down. Actually, she is now closer to me than she ever has been, but I just can't find her! She says she loves to do my quilts, so I'll just have to keep trying!

After reading the latest post from our administrator, I'd be cautious who I'd get to do my quilting. Take a picture of your Barn Quilt with the size and show it to a prespective quilter, and ask him/her how they would quilt it, before you decide . I'd hate for you to be disappointed with the results, after all your hardwork and inspiration.

Well--here's a possibility: there's a new fabric shop very close to me--which is strange sinc I live betwen 3 tiny towns. The older couple who run it are sweet. Their fabric is $1-2 higher than the Mennonite shops--so I don't buy much fabric there at all.

Anyway--they added a long arm quilting machine about a year ago. I never wuold have considered taking a quilt to them, but Jill, my quilter, said she's heard good comments about her work now and Jill said she's improved greatly. So...I guess I could try one there and see how it goes. They're having a 10% deal on all quilting in March.

I asked Jill if she'd just finish with my barn qjuilt--I just can't leave that with anyone!!

Rebecca, I didn't see the post from Admin. What did it say?

You can always ask for references from a quilter, and if she's proud of her work, she'll be more than glad to supply them. Call the people and ask if you can see some of the quilts. Talk to others in your area who use other quilters and see who they recommend.

I just went through this, and am very pleased with the new quilter I have.

It was the monthly post for Feb, they send out, for each month. This one that I recieved, gave info in regards to contracting a Quilter, for your quilting. I can't give verbaten info, I did'nt save it( I normally save all). But it was basically about what to watch out for, and tidbits of info on how to be on the same page as the quilter you contract. That some people can not be pleased with the end results, if info isn't clear. Ex: wrong kind of batting used, when the designer of the quilt wanted low loft, but the quilter used high, #2 The designer wanted a looser quilting stitch and the quilter used a tighter design layout. it was things like that to be careful about. I'm pretty sure if you contact Patrice, she can get a copy e-mailed to you. It's great info to read and have a heads up about, if you send your quilts out. I did'nt save it only because, I never send my quilts out. I quilt my own. It also had great info, on how to figure the cost if they do it by the inch. I hope I was of some help. But what little info I could provide you with, dose show I read them. So please contact Patrice and see if she can be of more help.
