Well I was dying to try fused applique. I watched different video tutorials but still did a HUGE mess.
I mixed up some of the instructions and I fused my fabric to my ironing table!!! The iron also has some glue on it. I was able to pull the fabric off but the glue stayed on there. Is there a way to clean this mess or am I stuck with a sticky ironing board forever? |
when I do things like that, I just replace the cover. Walmart is open 24-7 and easier and more cost saving then ruining other things I iron (which I have also done) by transferring the sticky to them. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

Try goo gone. On my iron I have good luck with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. AND GET AN APPLIQUE PRESSING SHEET!!!!! haven't had any fusible on my ironing board or my iron since I got one!!

I see a new ironing board cover coming up. I don't really know of anything to take it off but someone else may have some suggestions.
|
Wash it and iron a few scrap pieces over the area. The stain may stay, but it won't be sticky. Guess how I know?

pressing paper on it absorbs some of the sticky mess pretty well. then try the iron cleaning stuff and a new cover!
|
That can only mean that you will be very successful at applique. We have all done that. A magic eraser will clean your iron and a new cover will help a lot, like nothing happened. If you don't replace it dust will stick to it and it will burn a little every time you iron until it becomes a mess.

I use waxed paper to get the glue off my iron. Just take a piece and iron it a few times. You can use parchment paper for ironing sheets. I use a piece that is large enough to fold in half and then I place my applique inside before ironing it. That saves the iron and the ironing board cover. The paper can be used a few times before throwing it away. I now keep my box of parchment paper in my sewing room instead of in the pantry. :)

Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner is wonderful for the iron...I've purchased it at the grocery store, WalMart, etc. Comes in a tube. Can be found in the laundry isle.... I second the suggestion to purchase the special mat to cover the ironing board.

Yes, I agree with the parchment - you don't need to buy a special applique or pressing sheet.
