I've seen it in titles of threads, read posts where people mention it - is it a software? Something that can be down-loaded? Do I have to go to Best Buy to get it? (Ugh) LOL

Yes, it's software to design quilts. Search for EQ6 or Electric Quilt and you'll learn what you've been missing.

Electric Quilt. It is a Computer program for designing quilts. The latest version is EQ6. I got it for Christmas and am taking a class that started this past Wednesday to learn how to use it.
You can find it at a lot of quilt shops as well as several of the on-line stores, such as connecting threads.

Thanks, sounds neat but don't think I'll be getting it any time soon.

You can use EQ software to draw blocks, then either drop in solid colors, or from the library of fabric swatches to use, or scan fabrics in, to audition colorings for a block, or for a quilt design.

There are many "pre-made" block and quilt layout designs to choose from.

You can add or delete sashings and borders for try-outs.

With a couple of clicks you can change the size of your blocks, or your quilt.

It will do the math to calculate the sizes to cut for all the pieces in the block(s), whatever size you say.

You can see it set straight, or on-point.

The more you use it, the more you'll love all it can do.

i see they have eq 5 and 6 i need the beginner version or what should i buy????

EQ accepts suggestions from users for more/different things they want to do with the software. Every once in a while they put out a new version that does more. Either version is a powerful tool.

If you get EQ5 and register it, then when you are ready, you can buy an upgrade to EQ6 for less than the full price of EQ6.

EQ5 can be installed without the internet.

When you get EQ6 you can put it on more than one computer, up to 4. You have to be connected to the internet to install it. After it is on your computer, you don't have to be on the internet to use it.

They have a website if you want to check out the features and other software they have - www.electricquilt.com

I rarely buy quilt patterns now that I have EQ. It's so easy to draw any block pattern. It's way more advanced then just drawing a quilt block but that's mostly what I do. I convert blocks to paper piecing a lot too.
