Hi. I have a question that I hope some of you quilting fans can help me with. My father passed away eight years ago. In going through our garage and barn, I found an old quilting frame that was up in the rafters of the barn. It is four long boards with holes a few inches apart throughout each one of them. I have had them leaned up in the corner of my bedroom since I pulled them from the barn rafters. They are pretty cool looking. Does anyone know if these are of value? I have no idea of the value. But it brought back memories of my grandmother's quilting frame that hung in her living room. As a little child, I never could figure out what was hanging from her ceiling. LOL!!

I would think that it is more memory value than $$$. But you never know. Just wanted to welcome you to the board:)

I'm not sure how valuable they are either, but also brought back memories.
My mother quilted on this type of frame. She inserted bolts or large nails in the corners holes to assemble the frame. Mounted the quilt sandwich with a basting stitch looped around the rails,and then as she quilted a row (as far as she could reach, she would undo the basting to that point and roll the quilt and insert the bolts again to keep it tight.
It was hung from the ceilingm when she wasn't quilting she wound the lines around the ends of the frame to get it up and out of the way.

I rememb er my mom quilting on those.

Have you asked at the mueseum there? There's a quilting mueseum right there in your hometown! If you took pictures of the quilting frames in to them, I'm sure they'd be able to help you assess them for value, and if they can't they'd know someone who can. They have to have there items insured so they'd be the people to ask!

I had this same ? a while ago and I don't think there is much value in these old frames. I'm in the process of making a quilt for someone in exchange for an old wooden frame that I plan to hang on my livingroom celing just like they were back in the day.

my opinion is no $$ value unless made from rare wood that could be used for something else. or Martha Washington owned it......and quilted on it....lol
Over the years they habe been advertised and i have not been aware that anyone has tried to outbid to get a set.

Thank all of you for your input. I was quite embarrassed when I was reminded of the quilters right in my back door. I am not a quilter, but my grandmother was. I have two of the many quilts she has made over her lifetime...and believe me, she remembers every one of them!!
As far as the frames I have...I did find out that they were not my grandmothers. My dad actually found them in an old abandoned house. They are pretty cool looking in my bedroom I would say, as most everything I own is very primitive. I dont think I want them on my ceiling though. I'm really not looking to sell them, was actually just curious if they had value. However, there's something in my heart that tells me there is someone out there...a quilter...that would have such an appreciation for them and
would like to let me give them away.
