I have this iron and am mixed about it. I had heard about this self-lifting feature being good for people with carpal tunnel syndrom and although I don't suffer, reasoned that it might be a good preventative thing. When I bought the iron, the saleslady told me that it gets hotter than most other irons, but I have not noticed any difference. The reason I say no, is that you cannot lay the iron on your material and take your hand off of it. Maybe I'm doing things wrong, but I often find myself placing my iron and waiting a few seconds before lifting it and re-placing it. Or, when pressing seams if I've made a pile of triangles or something, I open a few, place the iron on them and leave it while I open the next one. With the Oliso, your hand must be on the iron at all times. If you are ironing as opposed to pressing, this iron works great. I have two irons, and I find myself using the Oliso less often than the other.

I purchased one through Nancy's Notions for a little less than that price. I am not particularly happy with it. I tend to move to fast for the iron. When I want to press etc. it takes a hair to much time to retract the legs. I am particulary not pleased with the way the steam works or doesn't. It also leaks water. I had a Bernina iron for almost 15 years. The only reason I gave it up is because it will no longer hold water. I didn't get rid of it. It is lighter weight and the pop up feature saves having to set it up each time I stop ironing but I won't buy another one.

I still like my $10 no name iron. Have had it for years and hasn't failed me yet.

I have an Oliso Iron and it collects dust real well on the shelf in my sewing room! I went with a Shark and I love it!!

Ya'll are making me feel much better about not getting one of these irons. I made that mistake a few years ago with the cordless Maytag. I ended up coming to detest having to use it. My dh bought me a Rowenta for Christmas because I was too unsure about the Oliso, even though it looked pretty nifty. I just didn't want to buy a lemon again.

Nope.

I read that the Reliable brand iron is the best home use iron on the market right now. It is about $100. Reliable makes irons for the commercial/professional businesses.
