Hi, everybody. I am new here, just registered today. I live in MIlwaukee where it is very cold and we have lots of snow and more coming. (good quilting weather) I don't do message boards much mostly becuase my daughter hogs the computer and I don't have that much time during the day. I also just got a new puppy who is keeping me pretty busy.
Well, I happened upon this site accidentally when trying to find the instructions for using the omnigrid ruler. I haven't quilted in a few years and dragged out all my stuff recently. Made a few 4 inch blocks for a wall hanging. Now, I can't remember how to use the darn 45 degree angles lines on the grid to square up my blocks! I feel incredibly stupid! I was so surprised that I couldnt' find any instructions on the web. I am excited to have a new site to visit to satifsy my obsession with quilting. So if any of you have an answer for me, please let me know. Thanks. SEe you around. |
Humm, I thought the 90-degree should be used for squaring, but I might be thinking wrong about what you are doing.
Identify the angle needed with the button (mark), run the angle along top or bottom of strip and cut! If you’re still unsure about it there is a good video on “Simply Quilts”. Key in quilt ruler in search, it should be the second show listed “Ask Alex”: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_988/text/0,,HGTV_22056_58466,00.html |
Are you squaring half square triangles? For that, the 45* line goes though center seam, cut first 2 sides to square, then reverse for other two.

Welcome from north west Missouri where this year we are getting snow almost every day. Nine more inches are predicted for tonight and tomorrow. I am so sick of winter.
Glad you joined our quilting family. We have lots of fun here. Please try the BOM's, I'm learning alot from them. Pam |
You are not alone, I have to stop and think about it every time, should be simple, but.. I also have trouble getting two strips together right for binding and that should be very simple.
Be glad you are getting snow, not fluctuating temperatures and tornadoes. Middle of last week, it was very high straight winds, know of a vehicle flipped in WM parking lot, and a semi turned over. This week lots of tornadoes, several lives lost, homes destroyed. Might be a good time to quilt, lot of people are needing blankets. |
I found tips on using Omnigrid rulers at this address:

Has some great uses for rulers. I had to print it out cause it was to small to read. I have all these rulers but dont know what all they can do. |
