I am so interested in the One Block Wonder kits. The ones I see posted here are just gorgeous. Is there a particular pattern author/book that you can recommend? I have seen several books online, but am not sure what would be the best for someone who is not an extremely accomplished quilter, and who has never done OBW before.
Also, I see many references to "Stack and Whack", and wonder if the OBW and S&W are the same basic premise??? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to those who take the time to help me out.

I am new to the forum but I learned how to do an easy four patch version of these at my quilt guild! It was really easy and I think a fun way to start.

What we did was find a floral fabric we liked and find the "repeat" in the printing on the fabric. We measured the repeat, mine was something like 9 and 3/4 inches from start to finish. So beginning at the first repeat I cut four strips that length, then layered all four strips atop each other. Then I cut the stack of strips into 9 and 3/4 inch squares and once again cut that stack of squares down into fourpatches. From there you should have a stack of the same pieces and you can just arrange them and play! It was so much fun!

Cutebun's tutorial here on the board is a fantastic way to get into OBW. I haven't done one yet (have the fabric!), but I've read through all of her tutorial threads and feel like I have a good hold on what I need to do (let's see if I feel the same when I *actually* do it! LOL). I have no intentions to buy a OBW book - though I am sure there is a lot of useful information in them. (I think the book is actually called One Block Wonders or something to that effect - I know there are a couple of them from the same author)

There is only one author of the OBW's and she has 3 books out. The first two explain the process better than the 3rd one. The 3rd one is geared more towards already having that knowledge, adding cube blocks, and different quilt shapes/layouts.

S&W blocks use the same technique to get the repeated block pieces and can be other shapes besides hexagons.

Other Kaleidoscope type blocks may use the above technique or may be fussy cuts out of the fabric to get the repeats. :D:D:D

So glad you posted this, I was wondering about a 4 patch and how it would turn out! Yours is great. Actually, every time I look at my kitchen floor, all I can think of is making a quilt! Had wondered how I could do it as an obw. Thanks for the idea!
