Opinions: D9P or Stacked Coin pattern?
 

Ok, I want to start my quilt using my Berenstain Bears fabric I got. I can't decided between D9P or stacked coin. I have not done either pattern and want to try both sometime but which would be better for this fabric?

Stacked Coins are relatively narrow pieces of fabric, so your pictures in your fabric would be chopped up.
With D9P, you could adjust your block sizes to see more of the print ... or could fussy cut the specific pictures in the print.

If doing the D9P, you might want to use the yellow on the front ... or other contrasting colours for the stripped pieces and smaller squares that will be formed when you cut it up.

And too, there are LOTS of other patterns to consider to show off this lovely print.
The first I think about would be a snowball pattern or variation of it.

I agree with QuiltE. The stacked coins should use many different fabrics for the effect.

Warm Wishes would work well and the focus print Bears would not have to be so chopped up. Just a simple 8 1/2" square of the print alternated with a 4-patch of the other two fabrics would also look great (think Downey kid's quilt pattern). Your Bernstein Bears need to be seen and making little blocks with tiny pieces will not show off your fabric. Even the BQ pattern would be great.

I would go with a pattern that uses larger pieces . Would be nice to be able to enjoy the bear fabric without cutting so small you can not tell what it is!!!

Depending on the size of your D9P, if you put prints in the corners you would be fine. What size are you planning for your blocks?

I had thought about keeping the layers cake as and following the D9P using the 10 inch instead of the 5 inch charm.

Oh, that's a layer cake at the bottom? You might want to check out the tutorial from Missouri Star for using a layer cake, making one cut dividing each block into 6" & 4" rectangles & then mixing them up. Each square is alternated, like split rail fence, and it turns out really cute! You could use the white for sashing or border, but this way you wouldn't lose the beautiful patterns of the prints.
