Opinions on Ginghers Rotary Cutters
I have been very unhappy with OLFA lately. Blades dull right out of the package or quickly dulling during use:thumbdown:. I have been thinking of trying Ginghers Rotary Cutter, the price is a little steep but with a coupon I can get it at a price that I can be happy with.:) If you have the Ginghers rotary cutter are you happy with it? Is it equal to OLFA?
TIA |
I got one when they first had them on sale at Joann's and don't use it. There is something about the design that I couldn't get used to - although that was about a year ago and don't really remember exactly what it was. However I will tell you that the ginger blades fit in the Olfa cutters. I just couldn't let a good blade go to waste and didn't have any trouble. I can't tell you if it has lasted longer as I just found it last month and put it in.

I've never heard of a Gingher Rotary cutter. But I have bought the Titanium blades and when my current blade gets dull I'll try them out. Titanium blades are 3x harder than steel.
I have one and I love it. I bought 100 blades from JHittle Co. and they fit well in the Gingher.
I looooooooooooooooooove my Gingher rotary cutter!!! I didn't think I'd like the weight of it but it's balanced and fits your hand really nicely. The blades stay sharper longer than any other blade I've ever used.

I love my Gingher cutter. The Gingher blades outlast any of the other brands of blades I have used. The weight is wonderful...highly recommend a Gingher cutter!!!

I love my Gingher cutter!

Bought one on ebay for cheaper, one of my best purchases, still use my olfas, but the ginghers cut better IMHO. LOVE LOVE LOVE MINE!!!!!!!
Love my Ginghers too. Got it on ebay. Just make sure you order the correct one for you. Either right or left handed. There is not one that is for both. I dont have trouble with any brand blade getting dull quickly. What kind of mat are you using. If it is one of those white ones - they dull the blades really fast. Your mat may be the culprit.
what Mat are you using? Sometimes it is not the blade, but the mat. Throw in the type of fabric, how many layers, are cleaning between uses, etc.....given that, PM me I still have a Gingher cutter set for sale.
I am using a brand new Olfa mat. Now that I think of it it seems my blades have been dulling faster since I bought the mat...hmmmm! My other mat was a Donna Dewberry (?) from my scrapbooking days. It seems I am replacing my blades about once a week. The new ones slice through my fabric like butter, but after a short while they are dull again.

I have a gingher rotary cutter, I'm not sure I like it that much. It didn't seem like the blades were very sharp and it wouldn't cut very easily. But it is very pretty, I love that.
Love, love, love mine, too. I agree: buy on Ebay. lots cheaper.
I love, love, love my Gingher cutter, and all my Ginger snips,(4) and all my Ginger scissor's! So well worth every penny spent on them!
I had a Gingher rotary cutter but didn't like the weight of it. I LOVE my Martelli rotary cutter. It is ergonomic and I can cut for hrs without my hand getting sore.
I also bought a Gingher rotary cutter on e-bay.
I prefer my Olfa cutters. |
I love my Gingher cutter. However I've only had it a short time so haven't had much time to compare between it and my Olfa. I can tell you that I have a couple of Gingher scissors in my cross stitching stash and they are like gold, so I anticipate I will be just as happy with my Gingher cutter.
ditto on the new blades...i have the same problem. being on a fixed income money for that kind of thing doesn't come often. or even for a new cutter. i can only dream of the gingher rotary cutter. I love my gingher scissors they are over 25 years old. .....if i could..i would buy the rotary cutter too.

has anyone used a blade sharpener to lengthen the life of their rotary blades? i am sure rotary blades get dull just like our kitchen knives do after much use and one would just need to re-sharpen them to get longer use. just wondering.
Has anyone tried the TrueCut electric rotary blade sharpener?
