Here is the first 10 minute block lap quilt that I tried from the video on Utube. I cannot decide whether to use a plain color for my strips on the sides and top or maybe a small print or what? Gosh I am so bad at putting colors together and was told by one quilting teacher once, all colors go together, well I have a hard time with that. Here is a picture of the top and would appreciate all help or suggestions.

I guess that everyone can see that there are some browns, golds, aqua and orange pieces. This was my first try at this so waiting your responses. Also do you think that I can attempt to use my embroidery machine and put some kind of machine quilting on it? I do not have a sewing machine that I can quilt with. I usually tie all my quilting.

Good Job ! I just finished a 10 minute block as a baby gift and working on one for a wedding gift. I did have my friend put embroidery in the center square but it was a plain block with a hawaiian hibiscus flower all one color. Your fabric is all different in the center square so I don't know how that would look. But all your fabrics do co-ordinate ! I like all the color you have going on there ! Beautiful !

Happy quilting ~

people quilt with old vintage singers---any machine with a nice straight stitch can be used to quilt-
but yes- you can embroider your quilting if that is what you want to do.
as for outter borders you could match the blue, the orange- or even the yellow and put borders which would work just fine- just match one of the colors and you could prehaps use the blue for the borders- then bind it with yellow or orange- or do the opposite- border with orange- bind with the turquise blue.
you have plenty of colors to work with-choose your favorite. what ever you choose will bring that color out more in the body of the quilt.

Turned out great! Lots of colors! I think a dark blue or a dark brown, small print or solid for the border would make it really pop! JMO Oh and any of the block fabrics if not all to make the binding!

Well, I'm weird, but I'd use solid black for the borders. It always seems to make the colors "pop" out at you, and since these are bright colors ~ I think it would come out looking like a Picasso!

I would use the yellow or orange for a narrow inner border, the brown floral print for the outer border and the stripe for the binding.

Wonderful! I think small strips of the colors you used would looks great as a border. Embroidery inside the plain blocks that don't have print would pop nicely!

Thanks for all the replies. These are all fat quarters so cannot use the same pieces. I like all the ideas and will bring pcs of my colors to the store to find the edges. It is fun to have all different opinions.
