Do you keep a catalogue of some sort on what quilts you made?
It has been awhile since I quilted and just recently have gotten back into it - in a big way, I might add...SO as I look for fabrics and patterns from before, I am getting frustrated with not finding things I know I have. I decided to make a page for each quilt I make to include:

name of pattern
a photo of completed quilt
number and sizes of blocks
sample (including selvage info) of each fabric
what I did with it (donated, sold etc)
where I got the pattern from
receipt for materials if available - or estimated cost/value of quilt

I have placed them in clear sleeves and put them in a 3 ring binder...looks good so far...I am already impressed with myself! I also thought it would be good for tax purposes - each would be documented for donations, deductions etc.

The reason I started this was that I made a quilt and loved it, but it was earmarked for donation...I didn't want to lose the idea or patterns etc, so I decided to catalogue along with the remaining fabric to make myself one someday soon.

let me know how you do it...

Yes, I keep a record book of the quilts I have made. I've only made 3 so far though.

My SIL is the one who got me excited about quilting, the last week of November. She told me to start a log as she was sorry she didn't start one until later.

I write in my journal the following along with a picture of the quilt: (although after seeing yours I may add more!)

Title/Name:
Started Date:
Completed Date:
Pattern:
Created For:

Lessons Learned:

Notes:

I also keep a spreadsheet of my stash 1/2 yard and larger. That way if I need a particular piece of material I can check it out on my spreadsheet.

I also did the same with my books and magazines. This has helped me easily check for magazines when people are looking for them to complete a pattern. If I don't plan on using the magazine, I just send it to them.

I love to pay it forward.

I also keep a record of my quilts. It's fun to look back at them.

Ikeep a journal with similar information. I'm going to add to it photos of the quilts & swaps that I make.

I bought a few Quilt Registry books from AQS years ago. Unfortunately, they no longer sell them.
All but 1 of my quilts are recorded w/pictures. Have been quilting since the mid-70s; on my 4th book.

I have three different quilt journals. No, I haven't made that many yet. One is for baby quilts, one for larger quilts, and the other for my extra projects, home dec. items, clothes for grandchildren, rugs, or anything else I'm working on not related to quilts.
I take a picture, swatches of fabric(where purchased if I remember), dimensions of quilt, if hand or machine pieced, hand or machine quilted(if by me or someone else), what pattern & where I got it(name of magazine or book & page#), when I started & finished it, and who I made it for & if there's a story to go with it.

I keep a record of my larger quilts and wall hangings that I make. I also put them in the clear sleeves in a 3 ring binder. I also have 3 ring binders for pics of all my projects (it's a bit behind at the moment) and of my WIPs.

I also have a journal started of my 'history' of quilting. Since I'm fairly new it's a short history. But someday my grandchildren will be able to read about me and my quilting.

no1jan - you are way tooo organized. I never thought of a spreadsheet for my fabrics and magazines and books. Good idea thought. I have photos of all my fabrics that I take with me when I go shopping for more.

I tried that for a while but it didn't last long.
