I have recently finised my first quilt top and back using oriental fabric and have fallen in love with all things Japanese/asian/oriental. Where is the best place to buy this type of fabric online? I live in Adelaide, Australia and there doesn't appear to be a huge selection of fabric here. If someone has a web site or knows of one could you please let me know as I am poised and ready to purchase lots more fabric :-P

I'm curious also. I just finished 3 kimono quilts! It took me awhile to find the oriental material! There is a lady here that has some. I bought s bunch from her! I was lucky enough to also find some at Ben franklins and my DD LQS. If interested I will pm her name and you can see what she has left. She is alsoore reasonable than stores tho I don't know whst shipping would be!!

Thanks so much for replying to my question. I would be glad to email the store directly to see if I can organise to see what fabric they have.

Try SeaWatch Fabrics. They have a great selection and the prices are less than the LQS. Service is very quick. Here's a link:

My friend has connections to friends in Japan(Tokyo)-not sure how much the shipping would be from there. She has beautiful fabric from there. If you need something from Hong Kong, I could always send something.

In northern Michigan, Rene's House of Quilting on M-72 near Traverse City. One of my favorite quilt shops!

Our little LQS has quite a lot of oriental fabrics, if you would like I can take some pictures and email them to you.

Most of the online fabric stores have Japanese fabric. My
favorite is Kona Bay.

I spotted some in a quilt store in Austin; the one with the kitty cat. Give me a little bit & I will post the name of it.

Have the answer as given to me:

It's the Quilt Store and it is in the Village on Anderson Lane between Burnet and Steck. An even better place for Oriental Fabric is the Poppy Quilt n' Sew on Williams Drive in Georgetown (Texas)

redkimba 03-21-2011 09:07 AM

I just now thought of this - have you tried ebay?

Carol B 03-21-2011 02:46 PM
