Painters tape and quilting techniques ???????
 

How do you use painters tape in relation to quilting? I recently posted a topic on BREAD TABS. dlf0122quilting posted "They work great to keep the end of my blue painters tape from sticking to the roll. I use the painters tape for lots of different quilting techniques." Which got me to thinking...... HOW many different quilting things do YOU use it for?? I use it for marking on my rulers so I don't have to keep finding the same measurement, mark quilting lines (for hand quilting),mark the different pieces of my quilt blocks and mark my quilting tools when going to class or retreat. What do you do with it! (thanks dlf122quilting for original post)

I use the painters tape for marking for cross hatching when quilting. I use it when I embroidering; when the roll of stabilizer is a little short in the hoop I run painters tape down the side of stabilizer and then hoop it. This gives me more to hold onto when stretching it tight and then I can tape it to the side of the hoop to keep it tight when embroidering. I use it to keep my thumb tack in place when using my "makeshift, homemade" circular guide. It works great and then I put a pencil eraser on the tack to keep the fabric in place while sewing. Sometimes I mark my machine with the tape when I have a certain width of seam that I need to be on one side of the presser foot while sewing.

When I'm working on a small project that fits on my cutting table, I use it to tape down the back of the quilt before I lay the batting and top on. It doesn't damage my table and keeps the fabric tight so I can pin.

Is painter's tape better than masking tape? Just curious :o

I like painter's tape better because it comes off my rulers and machines a lot easier than masking tape which usually made a mess so quit using that. Painter tape is made to come off easy so it don't tear up a wall that one has just worked hard to paint to perfection.

A little bit better. Regular beige masking tape has more gum on it and can leave the gum behind on your fabric, wall, machine, etc. The painters tape won't leave any gum behind. I think it sticks longer too - especially in heat and humidity.

I put tiny pieces on the bottom of my ruler to keep it from sliding around.

I also roll up a little piece and stick it to the backside of a block and tack it to the wall to photograph or to use as a makeshift display wall (because my display wall always has something on it!).

I use tiny pieces to mark pieces of fabric ... for example if I cut a bunch of equalateral triangles I want to know which side has the length of grain. After I cut a stack I'll stick a piece of tape on the side that has the length.

I tack down paper to my cutting board to make tracings on my golden threads paper.

I use it to mark straight lines for quilting. It seems to come off cleaner than masking tape , and also seems to stick a bit better than masking tape.
I also use it to hold long strip sets in place when I cut at an angle.

I roll painter's tape around my hand a few times to make a circle, gummy side out, then stick this on my sewing machine table as a thread catcher. I move any loose threads over there and touch them to the tape, where they stick easily. When the tape roll can't take any more threads, I just toss it and make another.

I use it to stabilize the bias edges of pieces. Place it just over a quarter inch from the seam you need to sew.
