I have been wanting to do a Dresden plate, but am not good at putting various materials together and getting them to come out looking good. I recently found a piece of paisley and with the different colors in it, I am wondering if anyone has ever done a Dresden with just one piece of fabric, like a paisley, because each piece that is cut, will look different.

Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

Do you mean a Stack & Whack? I think it would look great.

I think it would work and, you know what, it's your quilt. Go for it and post a picture.

Do up one plate with it and see what you think. You could post a photo and take a vote.....keep or ditch. This would be fun to see the reaction of the members:)

Could look pretty cool if you fussy cut the petals from the paisley. Kind of a kaleidoscope effect. If you have the petal rotary cutter ruler, stick a piece of Glad Press & Seal to it and use a fine marker to trace the paisley pattern. You can then cut all your petals from the same pattern spot of your fabric. You could also do them OBW style and stack them but it would be harder because you would need as many layers as you have petals. Just an idea. I love paisley!

My Granny did a bunch of the dresden plates, she would do what she called fussy cut the wedges, looked just like the stack and wacks, she was way ahead of her time. They are beautiful.I'll find a pic and post it for you. She died in 2002 at almost 90 yes of age. Pic is on shop pc not this one so it will be sometime tomorrow maybe.

I think it would look good - no reason why a dresden cannot be made from the same fabric

It would definitely work. Try it.
