I am getting ready to make hundreds of 1.5 x 3 inch flying geese using paper piecing..I am working on Sue Garman's pattern...Stars for a New Day, the 2009 BOM on the Quilt Show...and it has a flying geese border...

I hate the thought of cutting all those pieces out and so I took out my new dies...2.5 inch half square triangles...for the sky and 3.5 inch half square triangles for the geese...does anyone know if this would work...

There is a youtube tutorial with Ricky Timms, and it is a one seam flying geese. If you need to make that many I would check it out. Happy quilting.

i think the usual measurements are 2 1/2 x 5 for the geese

There's a new CD called Triangulations 3.0 that does Flying Geese making it simple with paper...I have 2.0 which is also great...Check it out thru ConnectingThreads.com. I just sent for it and that's the cheapest I could find it.

If you have a LOT of flying geese you might want to consider the "no waste" method. It makes four at a time and comes out perfect.

I was thinking of this method too..thanks...I will try a few and see if they come out right...I just tried my method with paper piecing and the sky 2.5 triangles are just a bit small, the 3.5 inch in perfect for the geese...but I am not crazy about having to take it out after each seam, press it open, etc...seems too slow of a process...but very accurate...
