If I have to draw my own patterns, I'll use plain old parchment paper. Never tried putting that through the printer.

But, if I'm printing a template, I use regular printer paper. I don't always tear my paper off right away. My paper pieced pieces still have their paper on them until I'm ready to sew them in a project.

pick up drafting paper at an arts supply store........10" wide and 25yards long--under $11 and comes in white and yellow

I use the cheapest paper I can find. Usually cheap copy paper. It tears off just fine!

Wishing you luck!

Because I don't have the patience to sit there and trace, I just go and copy what I need at the local post office copier and use that paper. I haven't had any problems! I'm sure it is cheap paper and it does feel very thin. If it is a pattern I ordered as a PDF file, I just print it at home and use cheap Staples printer paper.
