Paper Piecing Question
 

I've been practicing on some simple PP blocks and would like to join them into a lap throw. I want to use sashing around them because they are kind of busy looking, but I'm unsure if I remove the paper from the back before adding it. All the instructions I've read say to leave the paper on until the quilt is assembled, but I didn't know if that included when adding sashing.

Do not remove the paper till the sashing is on. Much of the fabric is now on the bias and will stretch unless stabilized. Black works well between all kinds of colours.

When I am joining parts of pp blocks togehter, I remove the paper from just the seam allowances where I am sewing them together.

I also wait until it is all put together before removing the paper. you don't want it to
stretch while putting on the sashing. have fun. I love to paper piece

I always remove the paper before joining the blocks. I hate for the paper to get caught in the seams and have to use tweezers to get it out! I'm just careful with my bias edges and have never had a problem.

I remove it too. But before I do, I sew completely around the edge of the block, about 1/8th in. Seems to help with any stretching. Not perfect, but it does help. Just remember not to use steam when ironing.

I believe they want the paper on because of the bias on the outside pieces. So when you are ready you could just sew on the sashing on each block or you could remove the paper just be aware some pieces are on the bias.
