I belong to a local quilt guild and somehow got myself roped into being the chairperson for this year's holiday party;DH says i must have been wearing my "sucker stamp" again! Anyways, every year the party committee sews up party favors, centerpieces and door prizes. I'd like a cute pattern to sew/quilt (not crochet or knit) a door draft stopper. When I did a search, all I'm finding is the very basic "snake". Does anyone have a pattern with a little more pizazze?

Kanoelani ~ Thanks for the websites. Yeah, I saw that McCalls pieced house pattern and just wish it wasn't so labor-intensive. It sure is cute, isn't it? But, with all that my committee has to do before the party ...... not to mention the fact that most of us are working on making our own Christmas gifts ...... I just don't think I can't ask the girls to make that one. The "snake' type door draft stopper might be the answer afterall and we'll use great fabrics to give it the pizazze that I was striving for. Thanks for the reminder, for years I used a grey plush snake draft stopper, I just loved him! (he was a store bought gift I received), I don't think you can go wrong with a snake.... houses are okay if you're into "country decor" .... anyway, just my thoughts on it.

There is a pattern just out in the December issue of McCall's Quilting that is cute.

In reply for a draft stopper, I have also been wanting to make some as I have some doors that let in drafts. I am thinking of useing some tubing that my husband uses to cover the pipes outside the house during winter so the water won't freeze . They look like the same size around as the draft stopper. It sells by the foot and is real cheap. It is black in color and looks like the foam material that is used under the flooring people put in their homes. It is thicker though as it goes around pipes. I just went and asked my husband and he said it is called pipe insulation. Estella

I have a pattern for a rabbit draft stopper that I did, the pattern also makes a cow and horse.

Hi Nina, I have a door draft stopper that is cute. (Sorry, can't provide a picture.) It is the simple tube design. It has a kitty head stuffed with cotton in the middle. Each end has different fabric that matches the head that looks like paws.

This design could be adopted to make cats, dogs, pigs, cows, etc. what ever head shape and color you can think of.

The tube is filled with kitty litter. You could make some with and some without the kitty litter and maybe filled on the stop when they are bought (for a bazarre). Some may want different colors to match their home color schemes.

You might to have the members submit their preference for colors, theme, even including their name. I wouldn't want to go to all the work and end up with some that were not wanted because of the fabric or color. So I would do a survey.

You could add a little skirt around the center section to jazz it up. I've seen some with a long ribbon that allows you to hand it on the door handle.
