I don't know if it's a tote bag I'm looking for. What I think would sell well are those bags folks can take groceries home in. Wegmans sells a dandy one for $1--it has a sturdy bottom and holds a lot of groceries! (So, WHY would I make some and charge lots more? )

I think these would be out of my comfort zone... but I thought it'd be fun to see a pattern and count how many seconds passed before I decided there's is no way I could ever make one.

Why? you ask! My DD made me a beautiful shopping bag. Not so much for grocery shopping, but I take it with me to the mall or the fabric store. It's classy, unlike most of the reusable grocery bags you can buy for $1.

So here are a couple of ideas for you . . .

Shopping bag using a plastic shopping bag for the pattern.

"Originating from Japanese culture where it promotes caring for the environment and reducing waste; Furoshiki is the eco-friendly wrapping cloth. Using techniques similar to origami, it can be used for gift wrapping, grocery shopping or simply as decor."

sondray posted some really great ones in links and resource section...a couple other ladies did too i believe. There is one there using old shirts to make the bags, I plan to do some of those; I have a ton of old khaki and denim shirts that belonged to my brother. AND!! you've got to check out the ones made from old bird seed bags...they are awesome!!! See, if you make them from recycled materials...they are technically under a dollar :D.

I had a paper shopping bag with handles and I cut it open and used it for the pattern. I don't call it being cheap, I was being "Eco" nomical
