I've had awesome luck with several kits and many patterns, but just this week I've been going crazy with...

A pattern that calls for 7 five-inch strips from a yard of fabric. Really? Seriously! In Perfect World maybe! Especailly since that yard seems to be 35 3/4 inches!

A bundle of precious baby fabric in a 5 yard bundle with accompanying pattern. 5 yards? For a baby elephant? This monster just keeps growing. I should have known better - I have made several generously-sized baby quilts with 3 yards.

A kit with an inner border made from a plaid that's a bit off. Parts are totally straight and then it veers off into Wonky Land.

But I just keep sewing and hope I find a home for some of my recent - not quite right - projects!

I have never used a kit-I would be REALLY mad if I got one that either shorted me, or if I made a little error, not be able to get more!!

I havn't done kits. If I buy a kit, that means I HAVE to make that pattern and i HAVE to use those fabrics. My "can't tell me what to do" personality comes out. "i'll show you!!" Make my quilt my own way. Arms crossed, nose in the air, My best 2 yr old tantrum at the ready!

I've never bought a kit - I agree with Clover Patch. First, I may not like all the fabrics. Second, I know me well enough to know that if it needs 1/2 yd, *I* need 3/4 :)

I have however had a pattern with a mistake. My first quilt too and I'm so proud that I recognized the error and was able to compensate for it! The pattern was "Bento Box".

I purchased a ocuple of kits. One was for a walker bag and the top section was put on after the bottom had been quilted and bound...The inside of course was much larger than the outside (because of the binding) and so had to make tiny pleats to take up the excess. Not the way I like to sew. The next one I made I reinvented the top and bottom both so that they FIT. I also got a kit for a little sewing kit that was very cute but the bottom pocket was impossible to sew like they indicated you should do it, so again I had to reinvent the wheel to make it come out decent. I don't think I will be buying any more kits anytime soon. Don't they have someone try their instructions?? I also often do not like their choice of fabrics, anothe reason to just buy a pattern and go for it myself.

Most of these issues come from a bundle of 5 one-yard cuts. The pattern is designed for a bundle of this kind. I really like the fabrics - really, really like them. Just thought they'd be cut a bit better and that - as Iclang says - that someone would have tried out the pattern!

I'd done several with patterns designed for 3 one-yard cuts, but this is my first time with this size - or this vendor.

Jan, if you got it from Connecting Threads they will make it right at no charge. Happened to me once and they promptly sent me the correct amount, actually more so.
Oops-actually I was talking about fabric. No problems at all with the patterns, sorry!

Not from Connecting Threads - sorry it's not! One yard was cut so close impossible to get the 7 5" strip and the plaid is so wonky I can't get a straight cut that's anywhere near the line on the plaid. I am not having fun. :(
