I am fairly new and I always go into the pictures of quilts and wondering where everyone gets the really cute and useful patterns for their quilts and handbags? :|

There are a variety of good quilting magazines available-they are less expensive than buying most of the books in quilting shops. Many are also available on-line for free. I have a site that always has beginner-friendly patterns for free-including good tips etc. Check it out-
About.com Quilting Guide with Janet Wickell.

Handbag patterns I get at the local quilt shop or online. I just google purse patterns and wow you can find anything!

If you see one you like just PM the person. They can help you find the pattern.

You might try your public library. I am very lucky because our head librarian is a quilter and has money in the budget slated just for quilting books. We also have access to any library in the county and many of them have large quiting communities so the selection is quite good. We can order our books on the computer then just pick them up at the library. They email you when they come in.

Have you been to the quilt store in Hill City? I've had some good luck with finding patterns there. (I also find lots of fabric there also.) Also they might be able to order a pattern for you.
