The bowtucks pattern calls for #987 Pellon. My Walmart only carries #973 Pellon. Do you think that will make a big difference as far as the stiffness of the bag is concerned? I don't want to go ahead and start using it if it is not going to work. Thanks for any advice.

I have used it. I have noticed there is not any consistancy with the Pellon 987 sometimes its a lot thinner than other times. The last Bow Tuck I made was considerably less stiff. I am going to double up on the Pellon for the next one at least on the outer pieces.

I use left over batting (warm&natural) and spray baste it. I like it just as well and it's almost free!!!

I have used both pellon. The one from WM is heavy FF. The bag will start to get very thick using the WM pellon especially the handle. I had a hard time sewing the handle once it was folded. If you put both FF side by side there is a difference. What I do to make the bag a little firmer is, I use the heavy for the outside of the bag and the thinner everwhere else.

I posted a Bow Tuck tutorial and there are quite a few posts about using pellon and batting. It is in the tutorial section. It might help.
