I am marking sewing lines on the back of a square to make two triangles. I have a water erasable marker but it seems to be kind of finicky. I am wondering if it would be ok to use a regular pencil to mark these lines. I can say that it would make marking thes 48 squares go a lot faster! The water erasable marker usually takes several times of going over just to get a line to appear. Do you think this would be an issue. I did a search and it looks like some people have had issues with pencils on quilts, but I am hoping that because it is on the back, it wouldn't matter if it doesn't come out as I will be sewing over it anyway.

I use one of those mechanical pencils with the really fine lead and I've never had any problems.

I use a chalk marker.

I use sewline mechanical pens, they come in several colors and are so easy to use and lasts a long time

I use an Angler 2 from Pam Bono so I don't have to draw lines. Connecting Threads has a Seam Guide that is similar but costs much less. No affiliation, just use the first one and have ordered the second one. This makes the process go a LOT faster. The first one is good for squares up to about 7" I think, the second one only 4". These may or may not help you depending on what size you're working with.

I hand piece and quilt as I don't get along with my sewing machine and it sits right there in the closet and is as happy as I am that I don't use it. lol

I just use a regular pencil, lightly marked.

I use a regular mechanical pencil. As long as you're not using it on white, you should be fine :mrgreen:

I used a .5mm mechanical pencil and it went so much faster than the silly erasable marker was going. It turned out very light which I was gladto see. I plan to get all the stitching done today and, as thin as the lines are, the thread should cover them right up. Thanks everyone!
