Help..was told to use a graphite pencil to do some markings on a light color piece and guess I was too heavy handed. Suggestions on how to remove the markings. Thanks, everyone.

I once saw an antique quilt from 1870 in a museum in Ft. Worth, TX, that still had the graphic pencil markings on it, faint, but there.

I have no solution for you, but a suggestion to use a water-washable art pencil (aquarelle) in a med/hard lead to mark your quilts. Those markings, done a little at a time, and not hard/over and over again, *will* wash out. I've used them for years. Google "aquarelle pencils".

Joannes sells fabric eracers. Not always available. I believe it was in the quilt supply department. But store set ups vary from locationto location. Very inexpensive. Seems to work ok

there is a formular. believe it is 2 parts water, 1 part rubbing alchol and a drop or two of dish washing liquid (not Dawn). Use well used toothbrush. Lay quilt over towels and rub gently with toothbrush dipped in the liquid. Dab with fabric dipped in water.

have you washed the quilt?

sounds crazy, but try baby whipes.. use pencil on a scrap of fabric before you try anything first ! if it works on scrap, then do what works.

Baby whipes are magic for a lot of things ! Swear I want to package them as a cleaner. ha ha

good luck !

Not sure if this would work but it came to mind so wanted to share the idea. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

It you try this on your markings, please keep us updated as to your results.

Thanks evryone. Tried some shampoo ...didn't work. Tried the fabric eraser from Joanns...didn't work. Tried spray and wash (dual power). Used a toothbrush aand then washed it on gentle. Markings are almost gone. Won't be so heavy handed next time. Appreciate all your helpful hints.
