People and Their Quilts by John Rice Irwin
Have any of you ever read this book? It is a masterpiece!
There are photos of quilts, but no patterns that I have seen yet. It is about the people who did the quilting--some of them 100 years old. I had forgotten about one pattern that used to be popular in the area where I grew up--Robbing Peter to Pay Paul. Sooooooo many warm stories to make you glad you are a quilter! |
what a cool book.

Hi! Many of the quilts in John Rice Irwin's book are on exhibit at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee. (about 16 miles north of Knoxville). John Rice is the founder of the Museum and is still living to tell stories of the Appalachian people. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) organization and is governed by a board of directors.
We hope if you are ever in the Tennessee area you will come by and see us! We have a large gift shop which includes all of John Rice's books. |
I think I HAVE this book ! Going to check my shelves ... it's a wonderful book. Thanks for the reminder !

Back in the 1960's my mother made a quilt for me, I had to choose the pattern. It was "Robbing Peter to pay Paul". I still have it, but don't use it. I have a couple that she made. That one is in a gold color & white.
