You can make the fabric yourself (this shop also sells the chemicals), but I find the packaged stuff quick and easy to use. Just follow the directions.

Lots of info on this subject, type it in the search on this board. I have good luck making my own "bubble jet" setting liquid if money is an issue.

I applied my photo to the fabric on a ink jet printer which worked out great, but I found the fabric a little more difficult to sew with than just regular cotton fabric. Applying the photo gives the fabric a different feel. The printed fabric also seems to show needle prints really bad.

You need to have access to an ink jet printer for the printed out transfers. Follow the instructions on the back of the package :D:D:D

And the iron on type of transfers aren't as nice as the ones printed out. These tend to crease and peel after a few washings :(

My first few were prepared by the local T shirt shop. They feel kinds like plastic. Then I bought the wrong type of printer-prepared fabric. (There are really good ones, the first one I got is not permanent!!!) Now I use BubbleJet and prepare my own. It takes a little longer, but because I supply it, the fabric is top quality. I iron a 9x11.5" piece of fabric to the same size of freezer paper then trim to 8.5x11. This works for me.

Go to Joann's and buy in the package Ink Jet printer 100 percent cotton sheets...they sell for 10.99, 10 sheets in the pack. I think June Taylor is the manufacturer. I use a coupon and get it on sale...I've done several photo quilts and pillows using these.
I usually put several photo's on the printer bed to copy on one sheet of cotton. Then I remove the cotton from the paper backing and iron on Lite Heat Bond to the back of the cotton which is also bought at Joann's...Make sure it's Lite not Heavy....Then I cut each photo out iron it onto the quilt and then do a decorative stitch around each photo....Works great and doesn't have the plastic feel because it's cotton...
