is piece quilting the same as quilt as you go? and if not, anyone have a site or tutorial?

I understand piece quilting as making a quilt top. Sewing pieces together to make a top or block, etc... i don't refer to it as the quilting process to finish a quilt.

I agree with you. Piece quilting is putting the pieces of a quilt together as I understand it. Quilt as you go or QAYG means that each block is quilted onto the back as you make the quilt and then they are sewn together. I may be wrong, but that is how I understand it.

i guess i am confused. i have read where some do the quilting process in "pieces". i know "quilt as you go" is done by the block. sorry i confused you too :)

Ah! quilting in sections (or pieces) is what you mean. Marti Mitchell has a book on that and Sharon Pederson has great books on reversible quilts done that way too.

I think it is just a matter of the terms we all use, but sometimes in different ways.
I "piece" all of my quilts and then longarm quilt them.
You can "piece" each block and then QAYG each block and add.
You can do some of the simple strips quilts (espcially wall quilts and tablerunners/placemats) and do "QAYG" adding each strip. I am sure there are more. I am just familiar with these.

I know what you're talking about. That was introduced back in the 70s in a Better Homes and Garden magazine article. The article used a log cabin block. As you sew the logs to make the block, you are also sewing through the batting and the backing simultaneously. I didn't know that technique had a name. It's just a different type of quilt-as-you-go.
