Would it be all right to piece a backing hoizontally using two WOF as wide as the top? TIA Tina

Yes. I would trim off the selvage, and I recommend 1/2" seam allowance, pressed open. This holds very well and makes it a snap to quilt through.
Hope this helps :) |
I piece mine horizontally and vertically without any problems :D:D:D

Thanks. I found some fabric on line at Fabric.com. My top is 61x79 and I thought 4 yards would be adequate.

I don't see why not . The only thing I have heard is to not have the seam in the middle, as the middle gets the most wear and tear. I don't know if that is still true or not

Thanks for all the input. I placed my order.

Applause.....beautiful quilt backing. Thanks. Still amazes me that I can chat with someone from another continent.

I try not to have a seam in the middle of the quilt backing due to the stress area when quilt is folded. I learned somewhere to cut 1 piece in half & then use a full width section in the middle with the 1/2 widths seamed to either side.

Donna, Your method was what I was taught. As a handquilter I like to use the extra wide backing made for backs when I can afford it. Every seam I can eliminate makes it easier to quilt consistently.

I like to use the extra wide backing but I have pieced mine too and it turned out fine.
