I'm working on a pinwheel quilt. How do you all feel about making the border out of flying geese? Is it too much?

Going around this way....I think they look awesome. http://www.kimberlyeinmo.com/img/classes/pinwheels.jpg

I think the scale is really important, as seen in that quilt.

Much smaller than the pinwheels, with some separation between the quilt center and the flying geese path.

It looks like 4 FG for each PW block, and the width of the FG is 1/2 of the PW block (the same as a quarter block).

It works really well.

You mean I actually came up with an idea in my head that I hadn't see any other quilts? Now that's a first!! lol

That's prairie points, not flying geese. Both are gorgeous.

Doing enough flying geese to be a border for a quilt will be very time consuming but will have a striking effect. I hope you do it. :D

Since I'm on the subject of pinwheel quilts, could I use multiple patterns of material? I've made 8 using a blue/blue floral pattern. I'm going to run out of the blue (I didn't plan very well). Could I use another color combination along with them?

OMG!! You mean, more than 2 different colors in a whole quilt??!?!?!

Please...add as a many combos as you want. Add some yellow, add different values of blue, add orange. Add one or add them all. There should be some unifying theme or concept. It doesn't necessarily need to be a specific fabric.

For instance, one of my quilts is Judy Martin's Shakespeare in the Park. Google it. Her quilt in the book was blue and cream. If that was made in just 2 fabrics, it would be the most boring quilt. But because she made it in 2 colors with a gazillion fabric of each, it totally sparkles.

It's your quilt. I personally never have less than 25 fabrics in my quilts. And I'm not talking scrappy, even though that's another option.

One of the benefits is that you never "run" out of fabric because it's a lot easier to find another blue FQ to go with the 10 you already used, as opposed to matching the exact SAME fabric in the 50 blocks you've already made. Which just bores me to tears.

Again, it's your quilt. Live it up!
