I have been admiring the recent photos of French Braid Quilting. I have done the Pioneer Braid, and wondered; is the only difference between the 2 braids is the width of the fabric? That is, the Pioneer Braid has wider fabric and the French Braid, looks like, to me, it is narrower?
Hope someone can straighten me out!!

I think the difference is the center squares. See my avatar, I used burgundy center squares and 2-1/2" strips.

katier is correct the only difference is the center block, which is added to the end of one side before it is added to the strip. Sure makes an interest variation.

I found a free quilt pattern. It doesn't show the small square. Can you tell me how to add that part?
