I guess it's not really applique, but I'm zig-zagging around all seams in a dresden plate and can't make the end points look right at all. I've heard to make sure the needle is farthest away before pivoting, but that leaves a "blank" at the end of the point. Doing it the other way doubles up the stitches and that almost worse. (Maybe I've got that backwards.) Anyway, any pointers? Do I lift the presser foot and scoot back manually? Which direction and where and when? Help! This is an important project!

When I get to the point I stop with the needle down inside the fabric, not on the outside edge. Then with the needle holding the fabric, I pick up the presser foot, turn the material, put the presser foot back down and then manually bring the needle up and lower it to the spot on the outside edge that I need it to be in. Then you should be able to start sewing again.
Hope this is clear and helps.

I was watching Sewing with Nancy, and she gave a great tip. Start adjusting the width of the stitch narrower as you get close to the tip. You want it very narrow when you get to the point, and then start adjusting it wider as you make the turn to go back down the side. :D:D:D

I have a similar problem with my Sun Bonnet Sue appliques. I am going to try these tips and see if it looks better.
