Hello all, I recently purchase two pices of plexiglass for square up rulers. My problem is how do I get the measurements on them? I have looked for decals and stickers and have also tried printing them to make my own. The measurements don't come out correctly. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks God bless, CarmenG

If you're wanting measurements ... I'd purchase a pre-marked ruler and know it was accurate!

I do not think that you will be able to add measurements. But you may be able to add an X that goes from corner to corner to let you center it. You will need a heavy thread, such as buttonhole or topstitch, and clear packaging tape. I ran the thread from corner to corner with a bit of tension, secured it to the front with a bit of tape, then ran a piece of packaging tape on top of the thread. I will say that I only did this on a six inch square, don't know if it will work for anything larger.

Usually the markings are laser made for accuracy.

I asked my plastics company guys and they don't do markings for that reason.

One friend is getting some acryllic and using a metal straight edge then will use a nail point to score it on the diagonals for the markings. It will be a square up ruler for her hand embroidered squares.

When I was looking to make some specialty rulers I searched for a company to do it and found one. Unfortunately, the set up cost is quite a lot and I didn't have it at the time.

Anyone know of how to do this without damaging your budget please let me know.

Depending on how thick the plexiglass is, could you not adhere a cloth tapemeasure to it, otherwise, etching would be the other recourse.

If it were me, I would mark them on the back with permanent marker and then cover the marked areas with the clear plastic you put on your rulers so that they don't slide. this would keep the marks from rubbing off as you use the ruler. Make sure that you use a brand new marker when you do this so that your lines will be as crisp as possible. You might even consider making every second line a different colour. That might keep it less confusing when you are using the ruler.

If the rulers are exactly the size you need for squaring up a certain sized block, you should only need some basic lines like an X through the center and maybe 1/4 seam lines around the edge, right? Some of the suggestions already given should work for just making a few lines. Otherwise, if you want lots of measurements, I'd just invest in the pre-made ones because of accuracy.
