polyester or cotton batting for qayg?

I want to make a fluffy quilt using qayg. Does polyester batting work ok? Is there any cotton batting that is fluffy?

Fluffy usually means polyester!

QAYG can be done with either poly or cotton.

All cotton bats that I have seen/touched are low loft and quilt up pretty flat. You still get definition of your quilting designs but fluffy is definitely not an adjective I would use to describe cotton batting. Cotton gives the old fasioned "flat" look to quilts and will usually give a nice wrinkle to the quilting stitches after washing. Quilter's dream does make a Supreme loft and a Deluxe loft cotton. They claim it to be a higher loft but I have never used it nor even seen a sample of it.

If you want fluffy go with a higher loft poly like poly down, Fat Batt, Quilters Dream Puff or Quilters dream Deluxe loft poly. Wool is also very fluffy but also very spendy.

I have done a number of QAYG - I always used cotton batting - the last QAYQ I used a poly because I wanted it to be fluffy - I had never used poly before and it was a disaster for me - not one square came out the same size - I am not sure why this happened -I was doing a complicated pattern "Snail Trail" but had an excellent teacher. you have to be very precise in your measurements and drawn lines if using poly. Other people might have a better explanation and what to look out for when using poly versus cotton.

I got a whole roll of wool batting when I had a 40% off coupon from Hancock's & I love it! It does beard but it just is a dream to sleep under! I highly reccommend it!

I would think that any fluffy batting would be hard to manage in QAYG, because precision is needed so much.

Even a poly fluffy batting will flatten with quilting. You need to do very little quilting to keep it fluffy. Polyester also allows the layers to move when quilting so is difficult to FMQ on.
