Postage stamp quilt from 2 1/2 inch squares? Anyone done one?

I have a lot of scraps and to use them I am thinking of doing a postage stamp quilt in a scrappy style, using what I have with no worry of colors or pattern. Thanks for any help. I think this is one that could take awhile.

I have been collecting 'uglies'... I love the character they bring to my scrappy quilts..

What would an uglies look like?

sounds good to me. I am beginning to cut my scraps into 2.5" squares ( will think about a postage stamp with them)and 2/5 x 7 strips (for a braid). ... all part of my plan to organize!

I have a whole box of 2.5" squares cut from scraps, separated by lights, darks, and brights. I planned to make a bunch of 4-patches but had not chosen a pattern. The 2012 issue of Quilt Almanac has a pattern called Cherry Jubilee that I might use. Can't find a pic of it online but it's a square in a square setting where the center square is a dark/light 4-patch. Their version is all brights but most of my scraps are Civil War repro's or subdued colors.

Also, look at Bonnie Hunter's website quiltville.com. She has wonderful patterns. I'm making the Patches and Pinwheels out of scraps also.

Sounds like a fun project. I am thinking of a table runner to start and see if I am able to do a large quilt. With RA it is sometimes hard to get my stiff fingers to work with small pieces.

Several friends and I made quilts in 2000 from 2 1/2" squares with 2000 different squares in them. We traded fabrics to get the 2000 different fabrics. Since then I think that I have accumulated at least that many more different fabrics so think I could make a second one! I started with the blues in one corner on a diagonal and continued in rainbow order. I put together 9 patches first and then sewed them together. Turned out great. I used the whites and blacks to write 2000 on each side.

#1piecemaker, it looks like your hubby's seams match perfectly! I'm impressed. This would be a great thing for leaders and enders. I just learned about them the other day. It seems pretty cool to be making 2 quilts at a time!

I thought you had to use a 1 1/2 inch square to call it postage stamp, oh wait maybe there isn't a quilt police and you can use what you want!:D:shock::p:eek:;):hunf::o:mad: Always wanted to use those little faces.
