I am very new to quilting and just found "charm packs". Oh . . . .my . . . .gosh . . . .! How exciting!! You mean I don't have to lean over my table and measure and measure and measure and cut . .and cut . . and cut?
Wait - is this cheating??? Not to mention - I am still a quilt sandwich-er who turns the quilt inside out to avoid the scary "binding". I am totally a cheater right?? |
no..that is not called cheating! That is called being cutting saavy! :D
|
Not a cheater at all  :D :D There are no rules as to how you buy your fabric or how you finish your quilt!!! That is the beauty of being a quilter...your way...no quilt police...ahhhh life is good 8) 8) 8)

I made a whole bowtie quilt out of charm packs. It was pretty fast and easy and I love it. The quilt police won't get you. Cheat away!

I love charms and check out Hancocks of Paducah regularly for sales on them. I have gotten large packs of them for only 3.99 on sale.
You will need to learn about binding so watch lots of videos as there are many different methods. I like Sewing With Nancy methods. Lots of videos to watch for free on, http://quilterstv.com |
Charm packs are definitely NOT cheating!! And they're great to use! And you can even find patterns using them :D

I was wondering what the "Charm Packs" were, sounds like I need to check into them just to see what I can get myself into.

WOW I am all over it!!!!
Fortunately Hancock of Paducah is not but a few hours away so I can see for myself. I heard that it is one heck of a sensory overload, I just cant wait for my wife to get feeling better so we can have a day trip and run up to see it. Billy |

Yeah I found out about that when I first heard of them when I got tangled up in this mess I got myself into LOL!! Something about quilting will get you hook line and sinker.
A good friend on the NeedleBar was telling me that they have a discount table in the back to look at first. Then you go and start looking around at the other stuff. I like the way the discount table sounds and she said it is really huge in size so I should find something there. Plus with Christmas coming up and all I might could show "Santa" what Daddy likey!! Billy |
I've been playing with my charm packs. Opened up my 2 Moda Kansas Trouble Flannel and wasn't too happy.
I had to go through and square them all. Luckily they were on the bigger size but still-not precision cut at all. Some of the corners were cut in so I'll be a little short on some seams. My cottons I used earlier were a little off also but no need to square them. |
Good idea Billy - I print out pix off the net to show my "Santa" - he would be lost without them!! I order from Hancock's of Paducah and get wonderful service and have been happy with everything. We don't have any regular Hancocks around here, so can't judge. LQS seem to be raising their prices even more, but what is one to do?

I have a brain cramp, there are packs I think called.. layer cakes/ that are 10" square you can get too... I know how cool is that? Wait til you visit your favorite quilt shops online or ebay and do a search for those.. eye candy for quilters.

Using pre cut fabric can't be illegal or I'm going to jail. I love jelly rolls. (Both the kind you sew and the ones you eat )
